My colleagues Bettina Giese, Nicola Raab and I have just completed the second year of awards of the Opera Europa Eva Kleinitz Scholarship. The scholarship was established with a bequest from the late Eva Kleinitz, past President of Opera Europa and Director of the Opéra National du Rhin. We received applications from over 100 young singers from 33 different countries – all of whom are still in full-time education.
We are pleased to announce the following scholarship winners for 2023. The award to Nanami Yoneda is a special grant to allow her to attend the Opera for Peace Academy in Paris in April, and reflects Eva’s close relationship with the opera community in Japan:
Jacob Harrison, bass-baritone – UK
Dafydd Jones, tenor – UK
Nanami Yoneda, soprano – Japan
Tamara Obermayr, mezzo-soprano – Germany
Madeline Saputra, soprano – Indonesia
Sharon Tadmor, soprano – Israel
Janice van Rooy, soprano – Namibia
