Necessity is the mother of invention. Is Opera a necessity? Did you know that it was Sony co-founder Akio Morita’s passion for opera that led to the invention of the Walkman in 1978? He wanted to be able to listen to opera on his flights... and the rest in history. Opera is a source of inspiration, creativity, and contributes to a healthy society.
BRING WORLD OPERA DAY TO YOUR COMMUNITY…
It’s time to prepare for World Opera Day 2025! Our annual campaign about the social impact of opera in society will culminate on a Saturday this year and we invite you to join the celebration! Wherever you are, bring the message of the unexpected, the social value, the beauty of opera to your audience and community. You can open your doors for a rehearsal, give a concert in a hospital, make your choir sing on the square in front of your theatre, or have a special digital programme! Join the celebration and promote it on your website and social media with #WorldOperaDay!
…AND TO YOUR STAKEHOLDERS!
On the side of Opera Europa, we are building up our research and advocacy activities. We want to help our members celebrate what is brilliant about opera, with policy-makers and politicians, private funders, civil society, the media and general public. We hope to launch the biggest ever dataset resulting from our annual survey this year, plus we are preparing an Advocacy Toolkit to share with members at our Geneva conference, 3-5 October 2025. We invite you from mid-October to join us in communicating the strength of the opera sector, culminating in World Opera Day on 25 October 2025.
Pencil it in your plans and watch this space!
