The National Moravian-Silesian Theatre (founded in 1919), based in Ostrava, is the largest professional theatre in the Moravian-Silesian Region and the largest cultural institution established by the Statutory City of Ostrava. It is an unmistakable centre of cultural, spiritual, intellectual and social life of the citizens of Ostrava and the surrounding area. It is the only theatre in Moravia with four artistic ensembles - opera, drama, ballet and operetta/musical, which perform regularly on three permanent stages: the Antonín Dvořák Theatre, the Jiří Myron Theatre and the Theatre "12". The company produces 16-19 premieres a year and performs almost five hundred performances.
