The Royal Swedish Opera is Sweden's national stage for opera and ballet and was founded by King Gustav III in 1773.
As a national stage, the Opera must offer "a varied repertoire with a good balance between traditional works, innovative interpretations and genre-crossing modern works. The Opera must also stand at the highest level in terms of development, renewal, artistic quality and craftsmanship in studios and workshops" according to the client, the state.
The operations are divided into three main areas; opera, ballet and activities for children and young people.
