The activities of the Fondazione I Teatri cover all areas of the performing arts. It organises the seasons of prose, musical-opera, dance, opera, concerts and children's theatre, the Festival Aperto, which focuses on music, dance, art and contemporary literature, the International String Quartet Festival, the International Competition for String Quartets ‘Premio Paolo Borciani’, as well as numerous exhibitions and installations.
In order to carry out such a rich and full-bodied activity, it can make use of a theatre system that is unique in Italy: three theatres, gathered around a square in the heart of the city, each strongly characterised both architecturally and in terms of the type of programming.
