Located in northern town of Umeå in Sweden you’ll find the cultural institution Norrlandsoperan. Since its foundation in 1974, Norrlandsoperan has developed from a small regional opera company into a expansive centre for the performing arts with a strong national and international presence, firmly rooted in the regions cultural life.
Within the walls of Norrlandsoperan lives the Norrlandsoperan Symphony Orchestra (NOSO) and departments for opera, dance, music and contemporary art. Norrlandsoperan houses four stages, production workshops, studios and the much frequented restaurant "Elektra".
We are a publicly funded cultural institution headed by the Acting Managing Director Gunilla Hägglund Sjöström. Norrlandsoperan is owned by both Region Västerbotten (60%) and the Umeå City Municipality (40%).
