Ópera XXI, the representative association of the national lyric sector, was created in February 2005. It is currently made up of the 25 most important stable opera and zarzuela theatres, seasons and festivals in Spain.
A reference point on the global opera scene, it acts as an interlocutor between official or private national bodies and other international institutions. The growing interest in opera and the integration of new audiences, and the difficulties sometimes experienced by the performing arts, show how important it is to have a table for dialogue, a space for meeting and debate between all the theatres and festivals with stable programmes in Spain.
