Zoom, Spring Conference: Work in Progress

For many member companies, spring is awakening late this year.  Which plans will ripen this summer?  How plentiful will be the autumn’s harvest?

Looking to the longer term, we question the extent to which operatic life will change, for both performers and audiences. How shall we prepare for a carbon-neutral and equitable future, one which will be sustainable in the broadest sense?

Our keynote speaker, architect and author Patrick Dillon, is engaged in ground-breaking work which will determine how we create productions and serviceable buildings for the next years.  His urgent message will help guide our interactive debates about the future of co-productions and the renewal of theatres.  That in turn provides a context for the return of our Co-production Marketplace.

This year’s General Assembly, in addition to the essential business of elections and finances, opens a window on to three major initiatives capable of influencing, promoting and enriching members.

To conclude this short conference, we look deeper into two crucial issues confronting opera today: how to offer worthwhile careers for the next generation of singers; and how to transform the process of making productions.
