Teatro comunale di Ferrara is the most important theatre in Ferrara. It was built from 1773 to 1797 by Antonio Foschini and Cosimo Morelli and is located in the city centre and a few metres from the Castello Estense. On 21 March 2014, the theatre was named in memory of the Italian conductor Claudio Abbado, who was its director for a long period. The Theatre carries out activities articulated in concert, opera, dance and prose seasons. It also promotes public education and information initiatives with particular attention to schools and young people and maintains collaborative relations with the city's public and private cultural institutions, with particular reference to the city's Conservatory and the Municipal Civic Museums.
