Macerata Festival launched its 2020 Festival on 18 July with a restaging of Don Giovanni in the open-air Sferisterio, with further performances on 24, 26 and 31 July, 2 and 8 August. Concert performances of Il trovatore follow on 25 July and 1 August.
Further up the Adriatic coast, the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro takes place between 8 and 20 August, with a staging of La cambiale di matrimonio at Teatro Rossini, supplemented by the cantata Giovanna d’Arco and recitals by leading artists.
Cross the Adriatic Sea to discover Sofia National Opera’s extensive programme of opera, ballet and musical at its Opera in the Park Festival by Lake Pancherevo in July, as well as 7 operas at Nu Boyana Film Studios at the Foot of the Vitosha Mountain.
Then, between 21 August and 11 September, Ópera do Castelo launches a new festival Operafest Lisboa in the gardens of the National Museum of Ancient Art and in the Carpintarias de São Lázaro, with a varied programme from an innovative version of Tosca to the Opera XXI Marathon and an operatic Rave.
