Is sustainability still a priority?
It looks like it isn’t for politics: the geopolitical context has brought up new challenges and politicians seem to leave the topic at the bottom of their to-do list. At the same time, the issue of climate change is meeting with a certain amount of fatigue among public opinion and is considered to be a boring, moralising and prohibitive topic. Finally, it may seem futile and discouraging to want to change the world of performing arts at all costs when we know that, even though it is a polluting sector, it is in no way comparable to large companies and certain industries that are particularly devastating for the environment.
Nevertheless, more and more theatre companies have put sustainability in their priorities and consider climate change a crucial challenge of our times. And theatre may have a power in leading as an example and raise awareness! Opera Europa’s membership is increasingly interested in this topic and we are happy to offer - we hope - an interesting autumn programme in this perspective:
